Our development of the system, comprising the 48 V belt alternator starter and the high-performance multi V-belt, means we are one of the first suppliers of mild hybrid applications in the market. “The new 48 V belt alternator starters consume significantly more power than the 12 V alternators. We therefore had to reinforce the multi V-belt with an aramid tension member, a fiber-loaded EPDM compound and a special textured fabric surface,” explains product manager Manfred Bonkowski. The UNIPOWER XHP is optimized for 48 V hybrid systems, enabling fuel consumption to be reduced by up to 20% while also ensuring reliable power transmission.

Able to meet future demands

Power transmission belts will continue to be faced with increasing demands – with particular reference to belt-driven mild-hybrid applications, they have to transmit ever higher torques, last for the entire service life of the car and contribute to environmental protection. “The belts have not yet reached the limits of their operational capability,” states Bonkowski with conviction. “We have already developed numerous power transmission belts that have met these growing demands and are also already working on new solutions”.
